How to follow the news as a beginner

Most news is written for people who have been following along for years. Here is how to start without catching up on everything.

1.Start with what touches your life

Your city, your job or school, your money, one hobby. News you can connect to your own week is news you will remember.

2.Skip the backlog

You do not need to catch up. Start today. Big stories repeat their background, so you will fill in the gaps as you go.

3.Pick one small daily habit

Five minutes at the same time every day beats an hour once a week. Mornings work for most people.

4.Ask when something makes no sense

Look up the one word or name you do not know, or ask someone. Confusion is normal, not a sign that the news is not for you.

5.Let your interests grow slowly

After a few weeks, add one new topic you keep bumping into. That is how a news habit grows into real understanding.

Start with Clara

Clara starts where you are. Tell her a little about your life and she texts you one morning text on what you would want to hear about, explained like a friend would. Ask "wait, what does that mean?" any time.

Common questions

What is the easiest way to start following the news?

Pick a few topics close to your own life, like your city, work or money, and give them five minutes at the same time each day. Skip catching up on the past; big stories repeat their background.

Why does the news feel hard to follow?

Most coverage assumes you already know the backstory and the names. It is not you. Starting with stories that touch your own life and asking about the parts that are unclear makes it much easier.
